The last record we have of
the Capshaw family in Maryland was 1757. We aren't
sure where they went when they left Maryland but
in 1767 Edward Capshaw is listed as the second
chainbearer on a survey for James Nicholson on the
Little Broad River in Mecklenburg County NC. In
1768 James Capshaw was second chainbearer on a
survey on the French Broad River in Mecklenburg County North Carolina.
In 1769 Tryon County was formed from part of
Mecklenburg County.
